I think my Rooster has frost bite!!

Heat lamps in chicken coops make for awesome bbq. Please don't. Get a cozy coop panel heater, it's way safer.
We have a panel heater, mounted near where they roost at night. Still thinking of bringing them into the garage this weekend as temps near -40. Last weekend with temps around -15 it got near 0 in the coop and that's when our one girl got frostbite. Humidity is very low in the coop, but the temps are just brutal this week.

Hang in there...we are only a few more days away from being out of this extreme cold. Those that got a bit of frostbite will survive just fine, and heal well. In my case, the older girls who got it a few years ago, haven't had any bouts with frostbite since, so there is a plus side to this. My rooster is going to lose a few points before this is done. My two RIRs have fairly large combs, but only one of them has a point that is looking a bit frosty.

Thanks! This is our girl's first winter so we have been worrying a bit. They seem pretty content! We definitely want to expose them to the cold enough that they are hardy for more rough WI winters. Thanks again for the advice!
