Out in the Boonies
She made herself a nest and she's sitting on five duck eggs now. :hmm;;

She's been making little nests here and there, but now she's made a full blown NEST. I gave her more hay, she used it.

I put a short fence up around her in the same pen as the ducks (because they were bothering her) and she's got her own food and water dish.

She was in the dog house (her 'nest site') before I let them out to have a run and a swim, but before I put them back in she went in on her own! This is weird, since she always has to be herded in with the others.

SO, I might have five new ducklings?!
WHAT THE?!!?!

If I were to put a couple more eggs under her tomorrow, do you think they'd all hatch relatively the same time??

Or would she abandon the nest with the first batch if they're too far apart?

EE GADS.

Chinese aren't supposed to be broody!

BUT, this is a good thing...
If I want ducky babies, I have to get them somehow!

My hen has a nest of eight eggs so far! She covers then completely up when leaving the nest. She will set for a few hours than get off the nest to join the male. Hopefully she will begin to set full time...

Aww, nice geese.

I wish I could pet them through the screen!

Seeing all the pictures makes me want more.

Are they straight white chinese? Or crosses?

I think crossing geese would be fun to do, if I could convince my family to let me have more in the first place!

The hens are pure white but the two males, which I call the motley crew are spotted. I do not know if they are crossed, I got them when they were babies....
You short video shows a very broody hen! good luck with her hatching them out....

When I woke up and went out, there were three ducks in with her! I think they hopped the fence for her food. She was scooted off the nest, and it was sort of trampled down (just the hay, not the eggs). I'm hoping she'll resume her broody-ness, but we'll see.

She still seems to want to sit on them, (

) but I think she's angry about being away from the others. Even if she can still see them.

Hope for the best!
