the staring contest he had with my two brahmas. The two brahmas like to walk up to our back door and look in. Last night, they looked in and our cat actually noticed them. They stared at each other - the chickens were the first to move. Does that mean the cat won?

Through the door, the chickens don't blink an eye when the cat or the kids notice them.

yep. the cat won

I had almost the same thing happen with my cat and chickens. My cat had just went outside onto the deck and my RIR was on the deck to. So they just stared at each other for a couple minutes then my cat went back inside so I guess the RIR won.

My cat and chickens play this game all the time through the back door. Usually the cat wins. One day I decided to open the door, all four chickens were looking in and Lissy Cat was looking out. When I opened the door the contest continued for a few seconds, then Elise decided to escalate and out the door she cautiously stepped. A few seconds later, BOOM, right on the kisser, Shiner Bok lept in the air a pecked her. Chickens one, cat zero. Elise hightailed it back in and has been content to have a plain old staring contest from then on. Poor whimpy cat sometimes meows at them, but doesn't really want to go back out.

Haha. My chickens always win... They walk up to the cat, look at it, she looks at them... and runs away. It's so silly to see her run away from a 4 week old silkie, she could eat it in a heart beat. Then again, she's smart and doesn't touch anything that she knows is mine. I've played with my mice and hamsters outside before when I had them and she would just let them crawl on her. And this is from a cat who works for a living eating mice and rats.

My cat knows the difference between mice that sneak in and pet hamsters. She would lead us to escaped hamsters like Lassie leading little Timmy. Ate the feild mice, though, and they are harder to catch than the hamsters!!
BUT. She thinks the chickens are just too cool. She doesn't actually catch them but she lies in wait and then chases them from time to time. It's so funny to see a black cat trying to hide behind 2 blades of grass! better still is that they know she'd there and will try to sneak up on HER!!
