I think the feed store was wrong.... what is this little girl?

EEs are so cool. I wanted one, but the feed store didn't have any at the time. If I'd been patient and waited a week, they had some. But they seem to never know what's arriving in their next shipment.

You're right about those little yellow chicks fooling ya - the more I look at pics the more confusing it gets. I think that the takeaway from this mystery is that hatchery chicks bred for egg production can be called a number of things based on general characteristics - golden comets, golden sex links, cinnamon queens - but it doesn't mean anyone will know just what they'll look like when they grow up! Nor does it mean that we know for sure what type of chickens the parents were.

All good, though! She's a sweet chick.
My chickens are all hatchery chicks and I could not be happier with them. They are pretty, healthy, they lay great eggs and they give me hours of enjoyment, but your are right you never know exactly what you will end up with.

Just to update this thread - in case anyone was wondering

... here's Penny today at 7 weeks old, with her baby pics for reference. She was the supposed feed store Buff Orpington. I'm thinking Golden Comet now... but do they have black in their wings and tail feathers? Anyone else want to weigh in?

She's on the right here.

She looks headless here... but wanted to show the breast feathers.

She looks like a New Hampshire to me.

She looks like the five golden comets I have when they were babies. They were sold to me as BO as well and are very much so NOT! lol
The comets are sweet to us and not skidish at all so that is a plus, and we didnt handle that batch as often as we would have liked, we werent sure we would be keeping them.
I have 2 RIRs and they are divas...pure divas, and one black sex link who if she is eating and you come close she bwaks loudly and chases you or other chickens away. She is a hoot!
It is fun having many different breeds and seeing how they all act!

You're right - it sure is fun watching their personalities develop. Our little black sex link is a sweetheart, but a friend who also has one says hers screams bloody murder if you try to pick her up. All three of mine are.... well, here's a pic today that speaks for itself!

They'll fly up and hang out when we're sitting around watching chicken television.
