I thought my little duckling who had to be in shackles had what looked like pasty butt.

After closer examination, I discovered that his wetness/dampness was higher above his vent. Under some good lighting, I could see what looked like his navel (where the umbilical cord was still attached). The best way I can describe it was crusty yellowish looking? I thought I may have even seen what looks like a tiny hole.

He is a week and 2 days old, and I never really noticed this when he was in his shackles/braces rehabilitating his legs.

For tonight, I put some neosporin on it with a q-tip. Often times I see him preening, but on second thought, he may be picking at this scabby area. Is that possible?

Has anyone else ever experienced this. I have him isolated from the other ducks right now. He is laying on a stuffed bear. He eats well. He doesn't drink as much as I think he should. He can walk and everything, but I am worried about this little area on his belly.

Am I providing the correct care/treatment?

Thanks,

-Dom

I've never had this problem but keeping it clean and putting neo on it is the best you can do I'd say.
