My 2 year old rooster's legs have been red, slightly swollen, & basically just nasty looking. I had originally thought that he had scaly leg mites. But after countless treatments I'm not so sure & am seeking information on what it could possibly be. He's a pure dark brahma, turned 2 in March, I have 19 hens ranging in age from 1 to 2 yrs & none of them have any leg issues at all, I also have 3 cockerels & 3 pullets that are fine. They get safeguard dewormer 3 times a year as well as dusted with permethrin a couple times a year & dried herbs that repel insects & rodents put in their stall weekly.
The following pictures were taken after a 1 week treatment of smothering in bag balm, followed by another week of being soaked in an insecticide. Afterwards, his legs looked just like they did before hand, with no improvement.
The next pictures were taken after a week being treated with vetricyn, followed by a week of blu-kote, & then a week of Vet RX (why they're so clean after the Blu-kote!).
I have seen the most improvement using the vetericyn, & I am currently going on week 2 of treating with that with a pretty good turn around. That being said, what could possibly have caused his legs to loom like this that goes away with vetericyn?
