The small grit for chicks is Number 1 size grit. I bought a 50 pound bag of Cherry Stone brand at my feed store a while back. The six month olds didn't like the larger stuff so all the ages get the small stuff. You can find little bags of it for sale. Sand works for them, too, I've been told.
