I threw that dadblasted chicken in the garbage! *Warning PIC heavy*

Too too funny, Jill!!!
The other day is was in the twenties and you could see poor Penny holding her egg so hard that her eyes looked like they were gonna pop out of her head...she held it so that she didn't have to lay it on the cold back porch but on the nice warm wool blanket on the back of the couch...

Lunachick,
That is actually a heavy duty denim tarp (like the ones used in popup campers). Hubby brought it home from school free, they had it in the trash and it fits over the run and coop great. I was hesitant since it makes it so dark, but it blocks the wind and is totally waterproof. It does make it like a cave in there tho, but they seem to like it. They go way back in, where its pretty dark, and PEER out at me, when its cold.

I have the gate on the south side.

Spotted Crow, yea, last night Fussy had to lay her egg, but she waited too long, so changed her mind, she had been goin nuts, I had her out and following her around for 3 hours...then she was like..."oh well, changed my mind, I guess I'll do it tomorrow"....

She laid it this morn, I have the trash more chicken friendly now, I told her I HAVE to take that bag out cuz I cant watch every minute!...., so now its papers, some of my old tshirts and some toilet paper to pull over herself if she wants. She has one heck of a time laying, poor gal. She jumps in there and sits for an hour, AFTER she decided thats where she wants to be.

You are a wonderful chicken mama! You really know how to anticipate what your birds like/want. (ie trail of towels so feet don't get cold, cover for her back so she can get comfy in there) They are lucky birds. I love the pics.

This is so excellent! You have set the bar right where it should be: let's bring the babies in the house. Now I have proof for DH that it's not that whacked out.

Of course, we're in N CAL so a cold cold night is 35. Probably doesn't count for setting the dining table for the girls and laying out extra comforters in the guest room....
