I took a bad egg out on lockdown. Cracked it open & it is ALIVE.*PICS*

Thanks Gypsy.
The egg piece is not stuck, it's just sitting there. But it fits perfectly. The humidity is quite high so I'm hoping I've caught it just in time so it shouldn't get shrink wrapped.
But yes, I will be keeping a VERY close eye on it.

Oh no......ok, did you clean the yolk off the egg yet? Sanitize it? It can cause the chick to get infected and die. What I would do and of course have done, is use sterile(pre boiled water will do) and drip it onto the membrane until you can see through it, and immediately cover the opening with Nexcare Tagaderm...you can find it in the bandaid section of a pharmacy or even walmart. Or another thing you can do is tightly fit over the hole, a small, cut to fit, rounded piece of sanitized plastic bag and seal the edges with thin strips of tape applied to the shell( I use electrical or duct tape) The most important things are to make sure the egg is cleaned off and to seal the moisture in while keeping pathogens out.

You can make a solution of 50% povidone iodine (betadine) and water and mist the egg and the new shell to sterilize it. Just mist al surfaces once and then put it back together and leave it alone.

Good luck!

After sanitizing ( I like the providing idea ), you could use some Elmer's glu to seal the shell back onto the hole. It's non-toxic so would be fine.
Biggest issue at this point is infection. If bacteria from that other yolk was introduced and is able to take hold there won't be anything you can do but you can just hope there's no infection.

Oh gee. I wish you guys had come along earlier. It's day 19 now and the other eggs have started to wobble. Would it still be okay for me to open the incubator?

Ok, so I took it out of the incubator and put betadine on the egg 'hat' and all around the hole. The chick was moving around, there wasn't much room for it to be moving around though. I also wet the membrane, I could see blood under it and freaked out but on closer inspection I think it is just veins.

Now I'll just have to wait and see.

Ok, after reading this the other day my dh was candling and dropped an egg well we thought it was not good so as soon as i cracked it open to see if there was a chick i hit the membrane well it started bleeding and the chick did not last long it truly broke my heart

Please keep us updated this is intresting

The turkey poult I was sure was dead a week before hatch...this is gruesome but I cracked the egg and the poult, yolk, and membrane came out whole..I opened the sac and held the poor baby for 5 min or so until it stopped breathing. I still feel aweful.
