I (unknowingly) bought sick chicks. Maybe this will help someone else.

Excellent!
Well, not excellent your birds are sick,
but that you got the results and have 2 pros to talk them over with.

I suppose you'll share these results with the NPIP farm you got the birds from?

Also, Kudos for sharing this here, a great education and documentation of us here at BYC!

Thanks @aart, it is good to have answers and resources. Clears the static so to speak.

I tried to share the lab report and vet notes with the NPIP farm, but the lady got really upset and said I was the only person who ever bought birds from her that has had a problem. She said she doesn't have any sick birds, cocci or respiratory. She said the chick is sick because I use pine shavings in my brooder.

I hope all this info helps others, that is why I wanted to share. I was thinking of contributing a article on my experience, with all the symptoms, timeline, treatments, test info etc. What do you think?

Denial is a wonderful thing!
You have to believe that she knew...

Unfortunately I think that may be the case. The rep that called me from the ag dept. asked for her info and I gave it to him. I don't want to make trouble for anyone, but she was so hostile I felt like I needed to give him the info so that maybe she won't do this to others, knowingly or unknowingly.

I'd be very upset if any birds who left here were sick, and I'd want to make things as right as possible, and be anything but hostile! Trying to have healthy birds is a commitment, and saying that there's never been a problem, when this is the disease, just doesn't seem very likely.
Again, I'm so sorry.

Thank you @Folly's place. The sad thing is that in my area she is actually pretty well known and considered to be a knowledgeable breeder and hatchery. She is selling breeding stock and chicks to LOTS of people. Even if she didn't know about the MS, there's no reason for her to get so ugly about the whole thing.

i wonder if she's getting birds from other folks too, and isn't all that careful about managing biosecurity. When you find out how your other birds are, you can make plans to move forward.
Mary

Well, when I told her I had the pullets in quarantine she told me it wasn't necessary since they had never "had boots on the ground", whatever that means. So who knows what she does. I asked her a lot of questions before I bought the pullets, but I feel like maybe she knew what to say to get me to buy. I was honestly giving her the benefit of the doubt that she had an unknown problem until she got so angry. Now I don't know what to think, but I've blocked her on facebook and phone, and I'm moving on to focus on my flock. No point in harping on what's already done 😒
