white orp. my 3 yo son wants a white chicken now. Ive have been looking everywhere for bbs orps, so now Ive got to find a white one too.

My white rock is a big heavy girl. She is a good layer. She isn't the type that likes to be picked up, but always comes running to greet me. She free-ranges with the other girls in her flock and does fine. Worried me at first, but she does fine. I never intended for her and the RIR's to free-range, but my free-range roo kidnapped them and they have lived with him in his bachelor coop ever since. It has worked out well, so I let them be.

Beautiful!!
I vote for white leghorn!
Mine never took a day off of laying eggs. They produce more eggs on less food than most breeds. That way you can get something big that eats like a horse and lays the occasional egg. It all evens out.

I am so impressed by leghorns that I now have them in brown, silver, red and white. I can't wait to see how they look when they grow up.

I think if you're going for sheer size and a good layer, the JG is your best bet. I have a couple blacks coming in a few weeks and I can't wait to get them. If you want lots of white fluff, go with the orpington. My sister's buffs are the loviest girls, they have an abundance of fluff and they lay nice large eggs.

I'd like a white chicken or two also so I'm interested to see where this thread goes. I currently have a few Australorp/Leghorns in my bators right now, due out April 8 and 11th. I'm wondering if I'll get a solid white.

White Chantecler. My white hen is one of my favorite hens and i have many breeds. Big, friendly but not annoying and a good layer. Gets along with everybody else.
