I want a cabinet incubator -- suggestions?

I have thought about buying that bator on ebay too. By the time my hubby had time to build one it would have been quicker to buy...still looking locally at the moment for a good used bator...

I went the whole nine yards with my Dickey, plexiglass door, electronic thermostat, and auto-water system.

The plexiglass door and electronic thermostat are worth while. The auto-waterer less so if you'll be candling occasionally.

That's not really true.

IF E would let me order one right this moment, it would be with plexiglass window and electronic thermostat. The electronic ones last longer, and I really don't want to have to mess with replacing a wafer thermostat if/when it should stop working properly.

So, when I say go with electronic, and yes it's worth the money, that's my honest opinion from my view and it's what I will be getting as soon as E looks the other way.....................

My Dickey arrived yesterday!!!!

I just need to work on setting up its permanent spot. I've got plenty of eggs that can go in, but I just don't need more crazy chicks.

Lots of chicks for sale!!!

Congratulations!

I have to confess after listening to it run for over a month I wake in the middle of the night wondering what's missing now that all of our eggs have hatched.

We'll be hatching more in a couple of months. Have to sell some chicks first.

I know that feeling. I have like 30 eggs hatching in my LG right now and a garage full of chicks. No hurry to get the Dickey set up, though I do have eggs for it.

I love both my Dickey incubator and hatcher. I went all the way and got both units fully optioned. Once set up its easy. Insert eggs, day 18 move them to hatcher>more eggs in bator, and day 21 remove chicks. I haven't hatched any for myself in them yet, but I have hatched about 800 chicks for the farmer up the road. He says he would rather me deal with it than him. He doesn't have the time to be bothered with hatching chicks. Both my units have now paid for themselves.

Interesting. What does a hatching fee bring in? Does he do the brooding? Wondering if anyone in my area would like that kind of service. I enjoy the hatching, but I get tired of the brooding part.

I get $1.00 for each set egg and another $1.00 for each healthy chick hatched. His son broods the chicks in their barn. They are involved in getting pullets to others who sell free range eggs for market. I'm not quite sure I understand what he means by the males being processed though. I do see a box truck picking them up at about 16wks. old. He's got to be making money though as he's been doing this for quite a few years now. He found out that I had an incubator and offered me a chance to do some hatching for him. I was just there this morning and he asked me if I could get another incubator if his demand continued to rise. I told him sure, just let me know.
