I want a rabbit but I have a cat...

I built a rabbit hutch about a year ago that I hope would someday connect to a portion of the chicken run. However, I adopted two cats who are friendly with my chickens and leave them alone, but they do catch squirrels and rats.

The rabbit would be safe from the cats, but a portion of the hutch as hardware cloth and the run is made of chain link fence with about a foot and a half of hardware cloth at the base. But I've heard that rabbits don't handle well to coming into contact with predators, and the rabbit my see the cats but would be out of reach and the hole in the hardware cloth are too small for the cats' paws to fit thru.

Any ideas/suggestions? I would hate to keep the rabbit locked up in the hutch, but I don't want to put the rabbit at risk of getting too close to the cats.

cats will very rarely take on a domestic rabbit, I have even a dwarf bunny that rulled the house and the cats ignored George the bunny.

Here at "Dottie's Farm", we'd shoot the cats and get a puppy to raise with the chickens and rabbits....

We foster bunnies for a local rescue group. They require their buns live indoors but my inside kitty has never bothered any of them. He even hunts mice and moles etc when outside, but not bunnies. So I'd say adopt a bun!!!!

Cats won't bother adult rabbits. If they do they'll get more than they bargained for. My young house cat has jumped in the pens before while I was taking care of the rabbits and got beat up for it by the does. The bucks probably would just start humping it.

I have three rabbits and three cats, the cats only challenged the largest rabbit once.

I suggest adopting an adult who will know how to bully cats. (instinct)

The babies will have more 'flight' instinct and that's fun for kitties not for bunnies.
