As Chris and Dawg have both stated in the past "they pick them up from many places including turf, and insects" that are already infected with one or more of the life cycle stages of the parasite. I have since as matter of fact had to change my schedule and recommendations for worming and other parasites as the load this year (at least in the south east) is especially harsh. I don't know if Dawg is going through the same thing as well since his area is usually even harder hit than mine. I absolutely do not recommend blindly medicating of any sort...after all most of us got into this at least partly due to that very fact in commercialization, but you do need to do what is necessary to have a happy and healthy flock.
