I want my ducks to like me!

We raise our ducklings in a horse stall. For the first 2 weeks, they get free feed crumbles. But after that, we feed them twice daily by hand. They have to eat out of our hands as we sit on the floor in the stall. They all do. We do this for several weeks. Not every day, but several times a week. Once the ducks are old enough, we lead them out of the stall to a grassy area and a kiddie pool for the day. We herd them back in the stall at night. I have a flock of 15 ducks of various breeds, all raised this way. The Pekin and the Khakis will still eat out of my hand and come asking for food within a couple of feet. The others will follow me with a food bucket but will not eat out of my hand anymore.

If you want a pet duck, raise it as a single.

That sounds like a great method! Do you think it would work with 6-week-old Pekins who already seem to fear us? I'm not going to try this with the Khakis, they can act however they wish as long as they keep laying those tasty eggs on a regular basis. But the Pekins were supposed to be my boys' special pets.

I think if you confine the birds and feed them only out of your hand for a period of time, they will become tame. At least more tame then they are now. Our white pekin is VERY friendly.
