Hi!
I have 9 laying hens, 5 that are going to turn 1 year old next month and 4 that are going to turn 2 years old in June. I also have a rooster who seems to be enjoying the pleasures of all but 1 of my hens (she chases him around the yard!) I really want my girls to incubate their own eggs but I don't know what I need to do. My Buff Orpington went broody about once a month last year, but she hasn't at all yet this year.
Should I wait until she (or one of my others) goes broody before I start leaving eggs in the nest box or should I stop collecting them now in the hopes that someone will go broody?
If someone does go broody, should I move her and the eggs to a different location since everyone else is going to want to lay in the that nest box too?
Is there anything else I might need to know?
