I want to breed show bantams! How would I start?

Seramas are definitely gorgeous birds. Where do you plan on getting your starters from? I hear they are kind of difficult to get good stock. And, have they actually been added to shows yet? Seems like there was an article in a poultry magazine this month regarding seramas and showing them. Oh yes, I just found it - it's in my Backyard Poultry magazine for Aug/Sept. It's about recognizing white seramas as a breed in the ABA standard. Anyway, it's a good article.

Best of luck to you! From what others say, it takes a lot of time, patience, effort, and definite love for chickens to breed and show birds.

I was going to buy a pair from Mr. Schexnayder in LA at some point. I'm not ready to start this fall, but probably next spring. Unless I see another bantam breed I absolutely adore.....I'm going to my first ever poultry show tomorow morning! Maybe i'll see something there....if not, SERAMA!!!

I know an older gentleman in NY who is dispersing his Nankin flock. He also has Gold and Silver Sebrights. If you're interested I can provide contact information. Tom

Nankins??? I wish I could get some!!! But I don't think I would allowed to right now. Thanks, anyway though!

If anybody has any other tips, I'd love to hear some. What is THE best situation to breed seramas? I'd have to build another coop probably, how big? Chainlink fence? Am I clueless? Not really, but I could use some preliminary advice.

hi
I too would like to breed show bantams. I have taken to the Dutch breed. Does anybody know anything about them. I was also thinking about getting a silkie to hatch their eggs but is that a stupid idea?
Thanks
