I want to buy some quails!!! Oops!!

Hey Marty, no my quail are not crowing yet!! and I love people like you b/c not all people here understand our "bird love" so I would love to see some of your bird specially if you have babies or chicks!!! <3

I do have babies often. I have incubators, so often we set the fresh eggs from the quail. I have coturnix and button quail. All very amiable and friendly birds, although a bit scared of us until they get to know us. You must be careful to keep them from fear, or they will stop laying eggs maybe for as much as 21 days....

How do you cage your birds? Is it very hot where you live? It is 105* today, but it is very warm in central and southern US, sometimes up to 115* or more. Important to keep birds in shade, and plenty of water.

Don't worry Marty here its a warm/hot in summer, and springtime is wonderful, full of life, also fall and winter are not so bad, winter is very rainy and a little bit cold, not so much as other countries, never under 12-15 degrees C.... except the mountains that wears their white dress in that part of the year so all the animals have no problem in here, some breeds never stop breeding....

!! My birds have lot of shade in there coop lots of water and food they seem happy but still waiting for eggs!!

Perhaps you should make them a nest box. Quail like privacy. I make boxes that are 10cm x 20-30cm, and the females like to be private for her eggs. I also make sure to not bother my quail, except to feed and water in the mornings mostly. I will look at night, but if they still have water and food, I do not draw near and distrub or distress them.

We use F* not C* here, but as a scientist, if you use metric, as most of the world wisely does, I would be happy to use metric. I almost used inches for my measurements above, but remembered you had descried your temp in C*.

Hahaha yes we use *C here and centimeters and kilogram not lbs :) I want to put them nest boxes thanks for the size ;)
Usually I lovee To handle my birds and pet them, and to examen them and their flying feathers and let them out but I'll try my best to not bother them thank you big sister

You are welcome little one. (I don't know if your my little brother or sister though)

Its ok to pick a few special quail for pets, but if you wish to enlarge your covey of quail, you must first leave them peacefully to "do the work" as procreators. Do you have a hen or other bird or incubator to use for hatching more eggs? When it is time, I can give you instructions for making your own less expensive (maybe, depend on what is available to you) incubator. They are not very difficult, and I have used one succesfully, before I purchased more modern ones. They do not work better than a real bird. One you have succesfully hatched enough to satisfy you, then pick some less good breeding birds to make into special friends. One or two can be tamed, but may not be good for work after that.

What birds and animals do you have? While I was raised with many types of animals, now we have poultry. We have 10 chickens, 12 ducks, 10 geese, 7 turkeys, and the quail. We also have a big dog and a little dog and three cats. I have two daughters age 12 and 6, and of course my husband and I. I take care of the birds, and see to the eggs and reproduction of birds, and hatching and brooding offspring. We have fruit trees (apple, peach, necterine, plums, pears) and wish to plant nut trees again, as our nut tree died finally. It was a granmother of a tree, but quite old and not well. We were sad to see it fail.

Our house is old for our part of the United States. It was built inn 1876, when our city was only 10 years old. Our city was on what was the "old west frontier" and my home was lived in by a famous cowboy who was very succesfull, and owned many many miles of land and thousands of cattle. It has a very large barn (where horses and cows were kept, but big like a big house). Our land type is open grassland, not many trees can live without humans care unless they are near a creek or river. The grass here grows taller than a man, but not weeds, large grasses with great heads of grain, plus we grow a lot of wheat for bread and other things in Kansas. It grows grass, and cows, very well. I wish that we had a milk goat, becasue I love fresh milk, and to make cheese. Here in the United States, it is hard to get wonderful homemade things (but I make them, unlike many lazy american woman) like bread and cheese. People think we are rich becasue people are foolish and waste money to buy things allready made, but I think we are foolish, and encourage others to take care of themselves, and make fresh things for their family.

Please tell me about your land near you, and your home. I will try to take and post some pictures for you. What would you like to see? Our home? Our grasslands and cattle? The college? The schools where my children go to school? Tell me what you wish to know.

OMG!! You're Amazing.... Well I'm your little brother..... And yes I would like to see pics for your antic, priceless and amazing house.... also pics for your pets and land...
You are a veryyy rare woman , Is that a dream I met one special American woman between those lazy and careless ladies that buy nasty things from markets(cans and etc..)
Its like if you were born here in Lebanon, actually women here are becoming more lazy with the time b/c they are effected by the citizens' life in the western countries....
But my family is just like you, especially mom.... She prepares everything by herself, the cheese (we get organic milk from our neighbors that have cows.. all organic) the yogurt and a lot of milk family food beside some of them are special in lebanon and other coutries don't know how to prepare... And also we are very famous with our sweets too..
And me too I lived between animals since childhood, and now I have 3 muscovy ducks, 10 hens and one roo, ten 4 months old chicks, seven 6/7 weeks old chicks, eleven 3 weeks old chicks again (lot of chicks) and I have some finches, 2 bulbul birds (its an Arabic bird) , a pair of pigeons(I used to have a lot) with their 4 weeks old chicks and they have 2 new eggs, also we have a pair of canaries with 3 babies(one passed away) and quails... I used to have fish and a cocktail bird and guineas....We sold our 18 sheep few months ago and I have 2 cats a proud cat with her second time of 5 offsprings...
we have a big land were we care about a lot of fruit trees that goes terrific in our climate like lots of avogato trees and prune trees and hawthorn and mulbarries and figs and pomegranates and peach and apricot and 2 acres of many kinds of ORANGES, an we grow our own vegetables like tomato, eggplants, cucumber, squash, chillies....
we have everything in our hands because in lebanon many herbs are grown alone..... we don't buy anything related in greens and herbs at all... I MEAN it.. And we have nut trees too!! And we have small chocolate trees hopefully we will make our own homemade chocolate as well!!
I want to know everything you have please post some cool pictures... Beside mom loves you after all I told her about you!!! She thinks that only her sisters in America are good house wives....

Hello Little brother,

There are still many woman uneffected by society, who still know the right thing is the honest work of their hands, but like in Lebanon, many also prefer to not do the work, even if it means less good food for their family. I'm sorry to hear our poor habits in the "modern western world" are having the undesirable effect on others. I am happy if we encourage the education of woman and men alike, and if we make others realize they have special and unique gifts, and if we encourage others to achieve higher education for themselves, in order to do greator good around them. As so many things in life, nothing is ever all good or all bad. Soon, other woman will realize that they have given up a better life, a more delicious life, and more prosperous life for their whole family, if they tend to them with the work of their own hands instead of paying for the work of strangers. Tell your mom to keep up the good example for the woman of your country, and I will keep up the good work here. A good example is never wasted.

I wish so much that we could grow pomogranite, avodcado, and oranges here, but we get far colder than mere freezing here in the winter. I am happy that we grow togather many of the same vegitables and fruits though! (we also have mulberries and apricots! I forgot about those, as mulberries grow wild here. They are everywhere!) We grow different vegitables for spring, summer, and fall. Here, it gets terrably cold in winder, and there is snow every winter, and sometimes the water outside so frozen we skate and dance on it! The snow will fall so deep, a little brother like you can become lost in it. Then, spring is lovely with lush great growth and many many wildflowers and blossems. Summer is very hot, and not much rain. Fall is lovely, warm days, cool nights (to ripen grapes), with very many apples to bring in, and pumpkins and squash to gather. We also gather corn for popcorn, just like the pilgrims and the native americans (our historic thanksgiving feast).

Do you love baklava? I love baklava, and my children beg me to make it every year when the nuts come ready. Too bad we can't grow pistachios, but we use walnuts and pecans and almonds. We have many honey bees, so honey is no problem. (We also have ceder trees, they grow wild here, but they are only maybe 8 meters high, if they are very large, and very bushy, not tall and elegant)

Here is a baby quail..... (near a game piece)
Here are some toulouse geese and one white turkey (they are only 2 monthes old, but will get quite large - the tukey abnout 18 kg and geese 12 kg or more.

I would like to see pics of your birds. Especially the unusual ones! IT will be such a pleasure for my family to share with yours, and yours to share with ours. Yay for my little brother and his family!
