What hatcheries, or where do I get true Americaunas? I get confused people swear they're really Americaunas, but then other people say no, they're easter eggers, but the others say.. they're the exact same thing... grrr This is SO confusing to someone who is just learning about different chicken breed. I just got 4 Blue Marans, and 2 French Silver Cuckoo Marans as well as 1 delaware, and one "americauna" chick from a local poultry farm. They are soo cute! Anyway I would love to get more americaunas so if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!

I get confused too. Here is a link to the Ameraucana club site, but I could not get the link to the list of people who sell eggs or chicks to work. Maybe you have to join?

The way I understand it (and I am probably wrong) if a chicken conforms to the standards it is an Ameraucana. If it does not conform pretty close to standards but lays colored eggs, it is an Easter Egger. Standards cover more than just color and pattern. It includes physical characteristics from comb to body conformation. I guess this means if you cross two Ameraucana's of different color patterns so the offspring does not meet a recognized color and pattern, you have an Easter Egger. But if you cross an Easter Egger with an Ameraucana or another Easter Egger and the offspring conforms to standards, then you have an Ameraucana.

I'm posting this, not because I know what I am talking about, but in the hope that someone who breeds and shows Ameraucanas will correct me so I can learn something.

Hi Tanya! I'm hatching Ameraucana (blues, blacks) weekly. No chick shipping, but if you are near enough to Aiken, SC --- you could pick them up.

I ordered from My Pet Chicken, and they told me that they are true Ameracauna's I hope that is true, because there eggs were way more than the EE's egg. I ordered 24 blue Ameracauna's. They are in the bator now.

There is only a handful of breeders of true Ameraucanas. They only lay blue eggs, not green or pink.

Contact Ameraucan Breeders Club

I got mine Ameraucanas from John Blehm (President of Ameraucana club) and also eggs from Ms Al Nichols of Iowa.
