I understand what it means, but many folks will get their hackles up at the word. I agree with the sentiment expressed, that disease will happen no matter what we put into our bodies or how well we live. We all have expiration dates. But, as a moderator here for over 5 years, I know human nature and when some folks hear certain words, their minds close off.

We want the dialogue to continue, right?

The original poster wants to feed a certain way but believes it's too expensive. People are offering alternatives to the poster. Truly, this isn't a place for a real debate on organic and non-gmo, but a place to give the information requested.

Because we only try to make folks stay civil in their discussions. BYC doesn't determine content other than to keep it family friendly. It's up to each person to research this stuff for themselves. Do I think some of the stuff posted is completely off base? YES. But, I'm sure many others do, too. This is the internet and you realize there is only so much you can do to control what is posted here-everyone should take everything posted with a grain of salt and look it up. There is much misinformation posted on many subjects on this forum and all other forums. We are not the information police and we don't have doctors on the staff. There are many ways to tell someone he/she is incorrect or out in left field without being off-putting.

Sorry, "we" is a habit from my moderator days, can't seem to kick it.

Nothing I have said is uncivil SpeckledHen. Saying that a belief is based in ignorance is not uncivil - it's a simple, clear statement - it doesn't involved name-calling, it doesn't involve insulting the person. I didn't call them stupid, I didn't call them an idiot - I simply said that they don't know what they're talking about.

If people can't disagree, and give clear reasoning for why they disagree, then there's no discussion, there's just echochamber.

As to the OP - organic and non-GMO foods cost more to produce - they require more labor, more pesticides, more farmland, and generally more transport. They're going to cost more.

When seeking a product, I don't look at what is cheapest, I look at the quality based upon the price. That is why I'd never eat Foster Farms, Tyson, Butterball, etc..

"American" companies growing birds and having them processed in China is not only based upon greed, it is dismissive of public health. The same goes for Chinese sourced ingredients being used in livestock feeds. Some years ago, it was revealed that Chinese soy was ending up in conventional feed rations by a certain milling company. I wondered who did oversight to ensure none of this soy was ending up in organic rations they produced.They were boycotted and will never get business from me ever again. This is the consequence of international trade. Trade based upon nationalist principles would be the best way to combat this problem. Unfortunately the majority citizenry is complacent and docile, too busy playing with their Iphones, jostling for place amongst the status quo, and believing what politicians and the government controlled media tell them.
