Honestly, I haven't quarantined any new birds I've gotten and all my chickens are fine. The way I see it, I'm not gonna even buy the chicken if it looks even slightly ill or is missing a bunch of feathers, has swelled up sinuses, etc. I give em a once over before I buy/bring home and as I take them out of the crate at home I give em another once over to double check. Then down they go right with the rest of em.
If you're buying from a good breeder/hobbiest they should have a sick pen for any chickens that are sick and wouldn't sell a sick chicken. Just my 2 cents.
