I love chickens. I am a crazy chicken lady. But I kept hearing about how great duck eggs were, especially for baking. So I ordered 3 ducks, a Cayuga, a Blue Swedish and a Buff, but I wasn't really all that excited for them. I kept reading about how messy they are, how loud they can be. Plus, how could anything compare to my chickens?

Well, I have owned these three goofballs for 3 weeks now and I have to say I am in love. Ducklings are so much different than chicks, but in a good way! They are hysterical and silly, and yes, very messy but worth it. I love how they follow me everywhere, how they wag their tails, they are so sweet I can't stand it!

I still love my chickens, but I have to admit that I think I might just be a little bit of a duck nut, too. ;)

Growing up! Trying to talk the 11 week old chicks into the mud puddle

This little cayuga imprinted on us, as she came in a shipment with another duckling who didn't make it. It took a week to get another shipment with 2 more ducks, so for a week all she knew was humans. She now believes he is a human, even though she has duck friends now!
Here she is growing up quickly!

Ping is totally smiling!

They are always together

Those are adorable photos, especially the ones of boy/duck bonding. Three ducks is a really good number - the mess is manageable and they bond with their humans better when they are in a smaller group.

Thank you!!!

And I cannot believe how FAST ducklings grow!! And I thought chickens grew fast.

Thank you so much! I live in Northern Maine, way up near Canada. The winters are harsh, but the summers are gorgeous. We live right by the river, this is the view my ducks and chickens get. A coop with a view.

Now that is an awesome testimony of duck and chicken loving.

So sweet.
