I was convinced I could keep hens after being wooed by the omlet coop

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Total noob

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Looking to get 6

(3) What breeds do you have? I want to get 2-3 different breeds. Deciding between Buff Orpington, Plymouth Rock, Polish, Wyandottes, Easter Egger, and/or whatever barnyard mix is available.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Fun for the family, compost, eggs

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Beekeeping, vermiculture, growing native plants

I've been wanting to get chickens for a while, but the idea of building my own coop/run or even deciding what I wanted in a set-up was so intimidating. After reading and watching a lot of reviews on the omlet eglu, it seemed almost perfect for the few hens I wanted to start off with. Now that I purchased the thing, I'm realizing how much I need to learn about actually raising chicks and taking care of hens. Still very intimidated by the whole thing, but now I'm excited to get going.
Welcome! Feel free to post lots of questions! There are lots of articles that will help too. :)

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow You've got lots of great advice above to check out our coop articles and there are some remodeled sheds. Depending where you are, you could look for people getting rid of old sheds or ice fishing houses on marketplace and just remodel them.

Welcome aboard to the best place online. 😀

Good luck on your venture with your chickens. There are a lot of friendly knowledgeable people here to help you on your way

Welcome. You can learn everything you need to know here. With respect to your coop - as it is with all premanufactured coops - if it says it can house 8, it really can only have enough room for 3. Just telling you this before you get the chickens.
Thank you! Yes, I read that can be the case, especially with the Eglu Cube that I got. It says it can hold 10 hens, but I'm only planning on having 6 for now. I have 2 young kids, a full-time job, and limited building experience, so the pre-fabricated route seemed the best way to go for my eager self. I'm also planning to keep the Eglu Cube inside a larger run to give them more space. If I do want to expand in the future, I may try building a bigger coop myself. I've seen some great ideas on here.

Thank you! Converting an old or cheap shed seemed so appealing to me. I didn't think I had the time or skills to convert one the way I would want though so pre-fabricated seemed the best way to go for now for my eager self. It's definitely something I want to do if I want to expand in the future.
