Hi everyone! I'm brand new to the site and to chickens in general. I bought 6 chicks from a local feed store four weeks ago: 2 australorps, 3 barred rocks and 1 easter egger. They're all doing well so far, very active and growing like weeds! Anyway, I'm not sure if the barred rocks I was sold are in fact true barred rocks or whether they are "mutts" or something else entirely. As I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, they should be barred by now, but these 3 show few signs of being barred. They are all mostly black with some very light white at the tips of their chest feathers and bright white feathers underneath the black feathers at the tips of their wings. Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

The first has some barring in only one spot on the right side of her chest:

The second and third have similar white tips on the feather across their chests (sorry for the poor quality, they wouldn't cooperate!):

As I mentioned, I also have 2 australorps and neither of them has the light tips on the chest feathers and I can definitely tell them apart from the 3 "barred rocks." Thanks again!

Not BRs, maybe bad quality Australorps or just mixes.

Thanks for the fast replies! I was afraid they weren't barred rocks, but oh well, it'll be interesting to see how they turn out!

They look just like our Australorps, mine have been getting more and more black feathers and losing the white.
