since you all made me feel really guilty I revised this, however, she did say she could not guarnatee fertilty. Which I figured was a given. Oh well....
I must have beginner's luck! I just hatched 3 BCMs, with one more zipping, and one or two more rocking. Bought 10 eggs, he sent 12. I consider myself VERY fortunate to have this many!! The closer to your own state, the better the chances of them getting there unscrambled, or at least that was my thinking. I'm in Missouri, these eggs came from Kentucky. Still, there are NO guarantees, even if you hatch your own eggs. As with all things in life, it's a gamble.
All the hatching I've done this year has been shipped eggs and have had from 90% to 0% and I've had sellers nice enough to re-ship eggs and I paid the postage for batches that didn't fare well. It seems that my best hatch I was the luckiest as when I had them ship more I didn't even get 50%. Most sellers try very hard to pack their eggs well but when boxes come looking like this well what can I expect...
By the way
we really are a nice flock of people but you hit on a sore spot with most of us
I hatch my own eggs and hatch rates have varied from 3% to 90+%. There are so many variables that it's hard to figure out what went wrong or what went right even when the variables seem identical, temp, humitity, fertility. So lay on plenty of eggs and cross your fingers, pray to the deity of your choice, promise the Hens extra treats, consult with self appointed experts, pretend it doesn't matter and when all else fails, order from a hatchery.
