...but we all know how that goes.

I kept forgetting to get the eggs out from under my last persistent broody, then I realized a lot of my green egg laying hens are getting old, so decided to throw some green eggs in along with some more "rarer" colored eggs for my basket. For good measure (or because I am a glutton for punishment?), I also put in 4 green fridge eggs. 12 of the 13 are developing for certain, with one of the fridge eggs being a quitter.

Now we get to play "who's the daddy in 2 weeks". I have a salmon faverolles room, a "brahmacauna" roo, and a chamois apenzeller spitzhauben roo.

I am hoping for some fun colors, feather patterns, and colorful eggs!

Next spring I will get down to business with purebred salmon faverolles. Now is just for fun!

Don't mind the 93, it's from when I was candling.

The giant "X0" egg was from my 7 year old brahmacana who happened to lay an egg the day after I set the others. She is my favorite hen. Hopefully it's a girl with the brauhmacana roo!

Yes! Another fall hatch! @Debbie292d and I weren't going to hatch this fall either, but she now has 1 week olds and I have 39 eggs working on hatching this Saturday :celebrate

Brahmacaunas!?! Do you have any photos?

Please keep us updated on progress and the hatch! :woot

Three have hatched so far! Another olive egger identical to the black one in the photo hatched since this one was taken. I didn't realize how staggered this clutch would end up being - I was expecting Wednesday/Thursday... not Tuesday morning!

I think based on genetics that the daddy of all of them so far is the "brahmacauna" in the photo. None have any sign of a crest from a spitzhauben and they all have 4 toes, so no sign of the salmon faverolles. The light colored chipmunk one I am kind of stumped who laid that egg because I could have swore it was a faverolles hen. I guess it was one of the ISA browns I have. Can't wait to see what the others turn out being!

Final count - 10 checks hatched after 3 early quitter/non-fertile, 1 day 7 quitter, and 1 malpositioned day 20.

Sadly no crested babies. Not surprising, though. The other two don't let him near the younger hens.

1 light colored 4 toed from tan egg
3 light colored 5 toed from green eggs
6 black 4 toed olive eggers (all my black and blue hens that would throw black penguin babies are all BCMxAmeraucana) from green and olive eggs

I hope this will help determine if my brahmacana is a homozygous green egg gene carrier (I hope so!)

All have some degree of feathered shanks, and all look to have pea combs. Hopefully there will be some lighter green egg layers in here.

I am guessing this bold one is a roo:

I know I not the only one to love a good fuzzy chickie:

I love this one's super fluffy face. I hope the mottling carries on to adulthood.

This one has pants to go with its muffs and beard.
