I watched it happen!

My mama thinks that it does, hence the squawking. But when I realized that they often squawk for a week or so before they ever lay the first egg, I think they just do it because they can. lol

the amount of squawking is hilarious when they're laying eggs. I don't think it's a painful squawk - I think it's an announcement of "I AM WOMAN, LOOK AT MY AMAZING POWER TO MAKE AN EGG!" (being a woman who has home-births, I can relate to that feeling)

I know who lays what eggs, too - by watching them - but on Tuesday, I actually witnessed the event. There was a lot of feather puffing and gyrations - then our broody hen reached over and rolled the egg underneath her. The laying hen walked off = "my job here is done for today."

Wow, that's great! I didn't get to witness it but, one of my girls just layed her first egg this morning. I fed them about 7:00 this morning and went to check on them around 10:30 and checked the egg boxes, which are always empty, until now!!! I was amazed to see this tiny brown egg just sitting there! It was still warm! I went right inside and got them all a treat. Now come on all you other lazy girls..............get busy!!
