I will never order chicks through the mail again...UGH!! USPS rant!!!!

Thank you!!! Pics tomorrow of the different little guys and their Hilton Brooder ;) Living the suite life at the moment...

The most disturbing part is that the hatchery was not concerned. She said this happens to all packages going through St. Louis and I won't get my $38 back on shipping. Weird. She said anything within four days is deemed acceptable by the post office. She said she's fought with the post office before and never wins. According to the post office, the person who shipped the package has to file for shipping back.

I'm really annoyed--it's not so much the $$--though I kind of balked at the cost at first when I looked at this hatchery but was willing to eat the cost because it was "better for the birds." Jokes on me!! :(. I even paid a pretty penny to have them all vaccinated against Coccidosis and Marek's.

I'm going to still put in a claim and follow through one way or another. I don't care if this is an ongoing problem or not. Shipping from the Midwest to the Northeast should not go from St. Louis to St. Paul--how many cities in Ohio or PA could this have gone through?!?

They all look good now--been out puttering around with them much of the day. Once the birds were fed and watered and stabilized, I let them in with the others (who are only 24-hours older). Everyone got along swimmingly...we even have an overflow brooder in a huge plastic kiddie pool that we brought in. Added another lamp since the brooder (and number of chicks) is large. Everyone is covered up back in the main brooder and bedded down for the night.

Very happy I had the "Chicken Gatorade" available--both Save-A-Chicks and Quik Chik seem to work really well.

It's AMAZING how big some of the birds are already! Especially the buff/tan ones!!! Holy moly! And they're constantly preening--I'm guessing the feathering process itches? They all seem normal and vigorous but I can't believe how much they've feathered out already--in two days!!
