This is interesting, in regards to selling, I get around 20c per egg and around $2 per meat bird. To produce an egg, it cost around 3c and for a bird (5 weeks normal size), 30c. If I raise 80-100 chicks per batch, birds are much more profitable than eggs. Also where I live (Australia) the egg market is not as large as the meat market.

I've keep my birds on a solid floor with a 12 inch high solid roof. I've never a single bird jump. With wire roofs, yes jumping is frequent. Looks like Akane's theory works out.

I get quite good money selling fertile eggs for hatching here in NZ. $1 an egg. Yes I do get more money selling live birds but the amount of work and space required...I live in city centre with 500square meter section. SO you can imagine I haven't got much room. I am only hatching about 40 eggs at a time and get about half of them surviving. Still learning to get good hatch rate.

I first started with Button Quail. Now those things are just for looks. And boy are they jumpy.

But those Coturnix. Boy they have personality and always come running ever time I walk by their cage. They are a bit skitish. But are very friendly if you dont want to pick them up..

I hope I can process my extras with no problem. Ive never done that before and these are my first Coturnix.
