I have some chicks coming from Ideal in April---silkies, NNs, assorted crested, polish, Ameracanas, and their assorted rare breed special pullets. I just wish they had actual photos on their site instead of illustrations. I also wish I knew what breeds I might possibly get in the "Assorted Rare Breed Special Pullet" group. Has anyone ever ordered these from Ideal? What did you get?

Often the "rare breed" chicks aren't that rare, but they can vary. I myself have never ordered from Ideal, so I don't know what to tell you. I'd say look through their "rare breeds" and that may give you an idea.

PS - Their Ameraucanas aren't real Ameraucanas, btw.

Though it doesn't matter to some people, their "Ameraucanas" are actually called Easter Eggers, the crossbred chickens that lay green, brown, blue, and whatever other colors of eggs in between. The hens often come in brown/black/gray or white coloration.

Yeah, I knew their Ameracanas were really EEs------that's o.k. with me, I just love the colored eggs! Their rare breeds are things like wyandottes, brahmas, orientals, long-tailed, chantecler, and possibly cochins? Not really sure.........guess I'll have to wait and see!

Really it depends on what they have too many of that week.

You can see pics of the real birds on Feathersite -- also linked on the left hand side on Henderson's. But Feathersite has good quality birds so be prepared for the difference.

I ordered 25 Pullet special along with 4 White Face Black Spanish, And Two Guineas and I am very happy with what I got.
I got these in the assortment:
3 White only leghorns
2 California White Leghorns
5 Black Minorcas
4 Barred Rocks
4 White Rocks
5 production reds
2 Naked Necks
They also sent me an extra Guinea, and 5 roosters ( 2 pro. reds, 2 white rocks, and one brahma)
