I witnessed the most horrific thing today...

I had a group of free ranging geese that divided themselves up into two clans. Periodically they would declare war on each other and there would occasionly be fatalities.

Oh how awful

I would have really had a hard time seeing that. I think it is the exception rather than the rule when a goose is killed during a goose war. They are pretty ritualized in how they establish "billing order", they each get hold of the other goose behind the neck and use their wings to beat the living daylights out of each other. They learn to fight like that from hatchlings. Anyway, how sad. I hope there weren't a bunch of little kids watching

bad enough an old lady like me would have been scarred for life.

Wow...I have never seen one killed either. I think the largest number I have ever had a one time was about ten though, so mabye if there had been larger numbers we would have had that happen, I don't know. I am missing my goosy-butts (that is my baby talk name for my geese, LOL) now that I am reading about other people's geese. I had to sell my Emden trio cause my DH lost his job.

I am on a waiting list to get Giant Buff Dewlaps in the spring though, so hopefully I won't be goose-less to much longer.
