I woke up to the worst thing this morning...

I've never been their. Know any native creatures there that have the behaviors of coons? If its not a raccoon, it might be a fox. I've heard of them popping their heads and using their paws a little to pry open a loose door.
They don't have foxes. They have dingoes though, which are more like a coyote dog cross. A domestic stray dog or cat could be a culprit.
 
I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's heartbreaking to lose all your chickens, and so suddenly. Dogs and feral cats come to mind as possible culprits. Are there bite or scratch marks around the door that pried open? Prying a door open sounds like something a human would do, but it doesn't sound likely that a human would attack the chickens such that feathers would be strewn about.
 
I’m so sorry for your loss! Sounds like it would have to be a pretty saavy predator with thumbs and fine motor skills to do that. Not sure what specific predators lurk in Australia though. Hope you can find some peace in knowing you’re not alone:hugs
