We have Walter a 1 Yr old Rhode Island Red Rooster. He has issues walking as of yesterday afternoon. He would take a couple steps then lay down. I put him in the coop on the floor overnight and he can't even get up today. In fact when he tries scooting to get away he can't even get his legs up under him properly. You have to get him set down just right.

I have looked at pictures and don't think its bumblefoot. He has some dirty and black spots but they don't look at what I was seeing called bumble foot. Nothing feels warm and everything moves around without any objections from him. He looks very alert and healthy. He is panting some but it is Hot today.

Anyone think they have an idea? I can get pictures if you think it will help. I think its just dirty.....

Does he appear weak? I mean other than the legs... Are his comb/wattles nice and red? Or are they losing color or turning blue? Have you looked him over thoroughly for lice or mites? When was the last time you wormed him and with what? These are good places to start to try to figure out what's going on.

does he lean to one side if so he might have hurt his backbone. or does his head lean over to the side if he is doing that his neck might be broke

Well They have never been wormed. :-( Will definatley look into that. Will check for lice and mites now. Didn't see any at a quick inspection. Will look harder. As for weak I don't think so really. His Comb and Waddles are nice and red. His Comb has always has a few black spots that come and go. The rest of our flock seems to be doing very well. We have 3 Silkie Roos (were told they were hens), a silkie hen, 3 Americauna Hens, 2 Barred Rock hens, Walter (the Roo we are discussing), and 8 RIR hens.

Here is a couple pictures of him. I think he looks pretty normal, except he can't get himself up.

No Lice or Mites. Down by his Butt there is place that is very red and tender looking when the feathers are pulled back. There are a few places that look as though the feathers have fallen out in that area. This spot is maybe the size of a quarter for sure no bigger than a silver dollar. His bottom looks kind of red but not near as red as the area just up from it. He also pooped when I was out there and it was very runny.

Boy.. he's a beauty! Is it possible he's eaten something like moldy grass or hay?? or moldy chicken food???
