IA (incubators anonymous) September Hatches?

I think if you search there are a few threads on hatching them! It would be kind of fun to try.

I heard Traders Joe as fertile eggs. Anyone used them before?

Have you moved the thermometer around to see if you have any hot or cold spots? If the temperature is pretty consisent through out I would put them closer to the middle.

I am apparently at least temporarily addicted to incubating, lol. I ordered more eggs last night!

Question: my incubator holds 42 eggs. When I set a smaller batch, say 12-16 eggs, is placement in the incubator a factor? There is a fan in the incubator. I am thinking that centering the eggs in the middle, near the heat and humidity sensors, makes sense. And when I candle, placing the exterior ones in the center and moving the ones that were in the center to the outer edge of the grouping. Am I over-thinking?? (I have been accused of that before, so feel free to be honest!)

That’s a perfect plan! I converted mine to fan for these hatches and I’m so happy with the stability. But I still rotate them around on my midday turn! Temps vary sometimes by .5 closer to the bulb. So I’d rather be safe than sorry. What did you order??

The biggest issue with hot/cold spots is that eggs in the hot spot develop faster than eggs in the cold spot. Moving them too much makes me nervous, especially with shipped eggs.

I think it's always best to move eggs around, at least to me it makes sense..... there are always cold spots in every incubator it seems. But then again a minor temp change from one end of the spectrum to the other is usually minimal, not enough of a difference from one egg surviving and one dying. With that said, I just had a temp drop in the middle of the night down to 91 degrees....... should I be worried?

Yes, the outer perimeter does read colder by about 1 degree.
And moving them around concerns me, too. I haven't done it previously, except at lockdown when I remove the duds.

My neighbor is also an enabler, lol. I sheepishly admitted to her this morning that I had ordered more eggs, thinking she would be wondering what is wrong with me. But, nooo! She said "That's great!", with a big smile on her face. (Sort of like " Welcome to the dark side.")
