i used an icecream scooper the other day to scoop and sling some doughey goodness to them. worked better than larger or smaller spoons and less sticky than hands. maybe soda jerks really know something.

what weird or everyday tools have you found useful in ways other than which they were originally intended to be used?

I use a old snow shovel to scoop the old shavings out of the henhouse plus a broom & dustpan to get the smallest bits out...

I use a shovel head that broke off it's handle to scoop old shavings...an old measuring cup for dishing out treats, and a plastic sour cream container to scoop new shavings in! OH! and my nest boxes are plastic crates used for milk I think!

I use plastic coffee cans for everything, scooping feed, keeping grit, ect. I also use 5 gal paint buckets to store feed next to the pens with coffee cans in them of course, my husband made me a yard feeder for my main pen out of a 5 gal bucket with lid and a rubber horse feed pan that works great!!! I fill it up once a week now. I have 40ish birds there.

I use a peanut can to scoop feed into an ice cream bucket. And the snow shovel does work great for cleaning out the coop. I also use the bottom of gal. milk jugs for dog bowls, just replace when cracked, or frozen water. The dogs also will play with them when they are full of frozen water.
PS I have 3 kids so we go thru about 5 gallons of milk a week...Thats lots of replacement jugs! I think I need a cow!!
