Last nite we had some freezing rain, then cold temps. When I went out to open the pop door I had to use a spading fork for a cane to stay upright. When I got to the coop the run was solid smooth ice and the chooks were making their usual "let us out " racket. So when I opened the door, out they ran, looking for the morning scratch. Well, two of them slid all the way across the run, the rest saw that and tried to stop, resulting in a pile of chickens, all squacking about the new evil slick white stuff. They all went back in as quick as they could so I threw the scratch inside with them. Water was good and plenty of food so I left. Once or twice one would stand in the door to look, but none came out the rest of the day. Went back out twice to collect eggs, got 9, now they are locked in for the nite. I wish I had a video cam but I probably wouldn't have been able to stand up to use it.
If this global warming keeps up, we are going to freeze to death!
