Icelandic cuties

I've incubated three times so far and these Icelandic chicks are my FAVORITE. They're so friendly and sweet and curious!

This is Gumdrop. She's an explorer, but so far her favorite is roosting on my arm and falling asleep.

This is Waffles, and she is also a cuddlebutt.

This one is my kids' favorite, Buttercup. She's less cuddly, but starting to be more accepting of being held.

I have seven others, all with distinct personalities! But overall, such sweet babies.

Have you ever raise Icelandics before? I'm curious about them. I thought about adding some of them to my landrace breeding project this year, but I ended up going with a different breed.

No, they're a first for me. They're certainly sprightly and fun. My last incubate was a BYM and orpingtons from my friend and those birds were kind of sluggish and really skittish. Not a lot of normal chicken-y behavior like roosting from the orps. Icelandics are SO FAST, like little roadrunners. They're really inquisitive too and not a mean chick amongst them.

I'm looking forward to seeing how their behavior evolves as they grow.

There are some people in areas around where I live who exclusively raise Icelandic and one was close enough to drive and get eggs (40ish minutes away).

It's because there are four lines of Icelandic and since they are landrace, the colors are very mixed.
