A couple of weeks ago, I got 8 young hatchery-quality Plymouth Barred Rocks. They were young enough they needed to spend a couple nights in the house. Boy, were they ever messy! They are nicknamed athe Messies for a reason. They also went berserk when night fell because they were accustomed to an artifiicial light regime that was probably around 16:8. They drove me nuts! They eventually got used to a 12:12 light regime after 2 or 3 nights.
The Messies are now in their own little coop awaiting selection. They are a bunch of little rascals and little ratatouilles 4 sure.
Today, I embarked on an experiment regarding 4 Cornish X delivered at 21 days old. I know these experiments usually end with fried chicken and have very few hopes for these four chicks.
I started them on their limited feed regime outside on grass during daylight. Before nightfall, I brought them inside (no food) to be warmer at night. They are so quiet that it’s like a gated community around here! They are nothing like those Messies!
