Last weekend, coyotes came through and killed our 4 hens that we've had for 6 years (2 buff Orpingtons and 2 gold-laced Wyandottes) and I've been moping around ever since, trying to decide if I wanted to get more chicks or "adopt" some older hens that needed a retirement home. Since I really just like having them around and don't really care if we gets eggs, we went with the latter option. So our friends gave us a few of their older gals and they are different breeds than what we had before. I think the black ones are maybe Brahmas? Or crosses? But I'm completely stumped on the brown speckled one. She doesn't have feathered legs like the other two. Any ideas? They all laid brown eggs, I think, though I can't verify since they aren't really laying anymore. They did not lay green eggs though, according to the friend who gave them to us. ID help would be appreciated.
