I was thinking of getting one of those large cardboard boxes, the ones stores use for bins for Watermellon, pumpkins... and use that as a broder? I -have 5 chicks and 2 ducks. I want there to be room for them to not peck on each other and get them out of the house.

I know the ducks are messy and will get water all over. If I line the bottom with plastic lids and use shavings would that help with the Mess?? I want all of the together but a 20 galon tub isn't enough space for 5 1 week old chicks and 2 2 week old ducks.

I am sure they would work for a brooder. I put puppy pads down on the bottom and shaving over the top for my bedding. You could even connect a couple of those boxes together to give them extra running room. But boxes aren't predator proof, so make sure you are keeping them somewhere safe.

I use a large cardboard box for mine. I cut a large garbage bag down the seams and them tape around the edges up the side of the box. So when I do the cleaning I just untape the bag and roll it up shavings and all. Fast and easy cleanup.

I use these all the time. Use and toss. I love those things. Had one on the back porch waiting to use it, but my girls have been out a lot and don't think the poop on the outside is gonna cut it. Good thing they're free.
