Ok, so I just processed my first bird this weekend, the rather handsome Easter Egger "Petunia" pictured below (obviously didn't know he was a roo when we named him).
I know the age of the bird helps determine whether they are a "fryer", "broiler" or "stewing" bird. This guy was born near the end of March, making him about 5 months old (maybe 5 months and one week). So my question is, will his meat work well for grilling, or should I consider another method? I wouldn't guess he's as tough as a 4 or 5 year old hen who's quit laying and ready for the stew pot, but I did notice a number of the pure "meat" breeds are being culled at around 8 weeks or so.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

We culled a trio of cockerels right at crowing age and made Forgotten Chicken. Really tasty and you can sub sliced potatoes for the rice. Just google it and a few different variations come up, all based on canned cream-of soup and dry onion soup mix.

My favorite way to cook a whole chicken is via "beer butt chicken" on the grill, but if he'll be too tough for that, then I may just save him for a good slow cooked dish for this autumn.

we harvested 3 five month old roos and made fried chicken, they were wonderful. I think any older than that, and you would have to chose a method that is more tenderizing.
