ideal perch / roost width...???

Did I miss something?? Where does it say not to use a rounded board? We have (a lOT) of decking boards left over from this summer's project. They are 1x6 and have rounded edges. They are treated lumber. Will that hurt them? We are planning to get the larger breeds. 1 X 6 would be ok or too big?

No, those boards should be fine. They're saying don't use rounded things like poles - b/c the pole provides no spot for hen to spread out her feet and tuck them under her feathers.

ETA: oh wait, please don't use treated wood for the roost! that stuff isn't good for them.

They have long and continuous bodily contact with the roost, each night. In fact, it may be the one, single piece of wood they touch the most.

There are warnings on treated wood, to use gloves when you handle it.

I would not use treated wood for their roost. However, I would use it any place where my chickens don't have a lot of contact with it.
