Ideal Poultry sending "shipped" email?

I'm getting a chicken shipped across Texas beginning tomorrow as well. Expect a call from the post office early in the morning, and a special early delivery. Your regular post will still arrive later in the day. Live chicken/chicks are a real hot potato item for them it seems.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I suppose I was right in planning on getting up at 5AM to get ready for any calls in case they beat me to calling them first haha. My post offices tend to open/close at irregular times due to the fact that I live in a rural area without many people. One is open 1PM-5PM, another is open 8AM-12PM!!
I'm super excited for my little birds! Will probably need help identifying packing peanuts later on if any come with the order. I'm only 90 or so miles away from Ideal so I'm actually unsure if they'd send any, but I'm excited for them regardless!

Wow just 90 miles and in Texas, you know they would let you pick them up if you call them in the future. You would save the shipping costs which always seem to excede the cost of the chicken.

Plus you get so close to Austins good eats on the trip!

Just prepping my wife for a Saturday pickup of chicks at ideal. I can totally sell her on the 5 hour drive each way by mentioning we will be stopping by the Sattelite Bar and Grill south of the city for their "Champaign Salads" best salad we have ever eaten outside of France. They are just off of the southern stretch of Mopac near Slaughter Lane. The Saturday pickup is just because they open at around 11am on the weekend.

Wow, you guys are lucky! My p.o. Are a bunch of slackers!!
I have had more issues with them than I care to discuss!! They are absolutely the laziest p.o. Around. I wish my p.o. Would call me, however I have learned that I need to handout flyers with all the info(I even add pics for those who don't care enough to read) the day before like they are little children, and sometimes that doesn't even work.
One time I got a great gal, who called me at 8:am and told me I had a box of chicks there, so I drive there only to find out that they don't open till 9:00. I knock and knocked on that darn door till my hand hurt so bad!! Yet, I could here them in the back, and they just ignored me.
That was so aggravating to know your chicks are there and waiting, yet unable to burst through those doors to grab them.
I think I just have a lazy p.o..
Most people say there p.o. Are pretty good!
So unless you live in Sugarland Texas, I'd say you are pretty safe!!

Sadly, I don't exactly have a way of transportation besides my grandmother (I'm 17. Have my drivers license but no car of my own quite yet.) so shipping was the only option I have for now. Ideal was my choice due to increased prices elsewhere and closeness of the place, I didn't want the poor babies to have to go through a long transport if a shorter one was an option. Haha I would definately be down for eating out in Austin though!! Too bad transportation is an issue for now lmao, hoping my birds get here safe though.
AllenK what did you order from ideal?

Not to mention my first order came all the way across Texas in a Truck in July and can't take the summer heat. Ideal was a great choice on your part! Great choice.

Edit- I missed the question directed at me but I want to add more pullets to my flock and will be ordering theirs, and adding another 5 or so Sumatras. Possibly a few Malays as well. I will decide in or by March after discussing them with my wife. I am really on the fence with her on the Malays.

I've ordered from Cackle, Meyer, Metzer, and McMurry
They have all emailed me a tracking number for my little ones. With my PO I have to stake out their parking lot the day the ducklings are due to arrive. Otherwise they will put them on the mail truck without even calling. My PO also likes to misplace my little ones and I walk through out the place searching. I know the PO halls really well now! I wish you the best of luck and happiness with your soon to arrive lovelies!

The first time, I told them about the shipment several times, and the day before. Saying they MUST call me as soon as they arrived. Nothing. That is when I was told they would have called an hour before closing. Why? “We don’t want to wake anyone up!”
The second time, I was there at 6:30 as they were taken off the truck, and placed outside on the dock. The guy was grilled excessively (okay, I was tired, and it was freezing out, so I asked in a concerned tone), asking if they were alive. The girl (nasty little girl I never saw again) finally showed up, and said I couldn’t even know the chicks were there. Since I was standing near the dock at this point, the frantic peeping of fifteen chicks was loud and clear. She practically threw them at me.
No, not every post office is bad.

I like this angry chicken keeper greets Postal Employees before they have finished their first coffee.
