I don't currently have any birds from Ideal Poultry, but I have ordered from Ideal a number of times in the past (including Black Silkies), and I have been happy with their birds and service. I've never lost more than 1 or 2 chicks in shipping (even from as far away as Hawaii), and since they've always put 2 or 3 extra in the box I've always gotten what I paid for.

I bought 28 birds from a woman who orders all of hers from Ideal Poultry. They're all 3 months old now and thriving. c: Only 3/28 were roosters, too.

Ideal chicks are very hardy. Even the bantams shipped to my local farm store are pretty strong and healthy, they hardly ever lose more than one or two. Keep in mind that Ideal does not sex their Silkies or Old English, so you will end up with about half your order being males.

I'm not really thrilled with my Ideal silkies. I have a Buff Pullet with very, very minimal crest and beard, light feathers on the legs and 4 toes on one foot. She also has a fair amount of hard feathers on her wings. She also has not gone broody, the main reason I got her. My black rooster also has very light crest and beard, and is just poor type, he's very rangy/leggy even though full grown.

Pros....they're both very sweet tempered birds. The rooster helps my momma hen care for the chicks. They seem to have a temperament to be nice pets if that's what you're looking for.

I'll try to remember to post pics when I get home.

And be sure to read their policy on adding males for warmth on small orders. I don't want packing peanuts to deal with, so I always order 25 birds even if I don't want that many. I can always sell the extra pullets, as opposed to culling or trying to give away cockerels.

My Silkies actually turned out quite nicely, but then again that was 23 years ago that I ordered them from Ideal. Things can certainly change in that amount of time.

Thanks I'm thinking about ordering red and lavender and partridge and grey from them then I'm going to order lemon blue and lavender old English and blue and lavender Mille fluer do think those are good choices

Here are pics of my birds. You can see they're just not nice quality.......then again, they're a very, very small sample of what Ideal puts out each year. Other than these, I've been happy with Ideal's stock as well as McMurray over the years.
