Ideal Rare Breed Assortment

O, MY, GOODNESS... two years from now, I'm doing the Ornamental Layers from McMurray!... or maybe the Ideal Rare Breed Assortment. I hope you'll continue to give us pic updates.

What a COOL flock I LOVE variety.

I think the chick in the 6th pic is a Jaerhon. She is colored like they describe them, and she's really friendly. She flys up on my shoulder, and wants to be held. Amy

they are beautiful. I hate that more people didn't help identify them. Will you post more pictures in about 4 weeks so we can see them again? also, please keep me posted if you figure out what the chicks i was asking about are

She's definitely a Silver Campine. She's colored like the goldens, but black where they are gold. I think the silver gray chicks are Krakenkoppes? The chicks that are reddish gold, I think maybe Phoenix? I'll get some updated pics on here soon. Amy

Here's an updated photo of my chicks. I lost most of them when they were 6 wks. old. They contracted a virus from our local poultry houses. I ended up saving only 13 chicks. These guys are doing great! Here they are enjoying some figs. Can anyone tell me what breeds are here? I know a few, but still have several I'm not sure of. Thanks, Amy

assuming they have a single comb, the two that have gold heads and are barred look like gold campines, but I'm guessing that was one of the ones you already knew.

The one with the white head and black barring could be a silver campine or an egyptian fayoumi. I just did the breed page on both of these and they are extremely hard to tell apart. From the research I did, if she is smaller (even if its just a little smaller) than your gold campines she is probably a Fayoumi. Another clue, if her legs are lighter in color than the gold campines she might be a Fayoumi.

I did a lot of research on this because I have two chicks that looked like your. I had an easier differential than you do because one of mine had green legs and the Fayoumis can either have slate or willow green colored legs.

The one with the white head is DEFINTELY an Egyptian Fayoumis. I recognized it in the middle in the second to last baby chick photo you posted. It started out as a choc color with black and silver. I have raised many of these and breed Egyptians.

Thanks, I don't know what any of the solid colored chicks are. They all have really small combs and really long tails. I ordered them as pullets except the gold brabanter is a roo. I suspect that one of the gold campines may be a roo too. Not sure?
