Ideal Shipped -- 50 baby ducks on the way...woo hoo! (MORE PICS ADDED)

Not to hijack the thread, but what breeds are you getting from Sandhill? All of my Dark Campbells, Runners, and Hookbills are from them (although I'm adding some more Hookbills from Holderreads this spring). They're really great people to deal with! Don't be so sure about the April 8th date though - I had my order in the fall before, and requested a hatch date anytime between April and June. My ducklings arrived at the end of July, after I had given up all hope and was expecting a refund! I'm so glad I was surprised with a box of fuzzy-butts instead!

I'm designing my own incubator right now (which is going to be AWESOME, I can't wait until it's done and I can unveil it here on BYC), and I decided to limit myself to a maximum capacity of 50 duck eggs, so that I don't end up with 350 ducklings at a time! It's just too much poo!

I am getting an assortment, and then selling them 2 days after I get them.

Aw, I could never give up so many babies that soon!

But then, herefordlovinglady, I could never deal with 50 ducklings all at once (let alone 60, or 200, or 350!). I don't know how you manage; when I have ducklings in the brooder (which is out in the garage - mom draws the line at letting them in the house), I set my alarm for every two hours during the night for the first week so that I can go check on them and make sure the brooder temperature is holding steady. I'm nuts about my ducks.

Thank God the caretaker loves to play with all the babies. He has always had a real good success rate at raising babies. I will have new pics in the morning.

I have to say I am very proud of you taking care of your babies so well. I do the same with the chicks and the baby calves (who need special attention)...You know they depend on us for survival and you seem to have what it takes to care. You are one awesome person. You should be very proud of yourself.

The brooder in(1st) pic is open for the pic.,pylwood goes on to to keep temp, then rigged another right next to it,so the hole group moves over to a new pen while I cleam the one they were in and on good day just open the side and let them out for some sun, after about a couple of weeks they go on auto waters. Then when they get big enough where they take up both my brooding areas they go outside for good.
If you really stop to think about it 10 or 200 takes the same amount of time,I can clean the brooder in 2-3 minutes, but where you are putting out 2-3 lbs of food I'm putting out 20-30lbs,still only takes 5-7 minutes a day,and yes I'm retired so do have lots of time to get the work done.

Pic is not really showing them put is you look by the frount bird box they are hiding in the shade, took them 3-4 times to get used to the visitors on the other side of fence.

Theres no way all 50 fit in that box! I cant even imagine 10 fitting. What kind of ducklings are they? They look like Mallards but I'm sure they arent. Everyone who gets these large shipments, do you sell the ducklings? If I were you guys Id be in hatching heaven! I have 6 and am so tempted to hatch more! In your case Id never stop hatching!!

I was amazed that they all did. there were 4 compartments, I was surprised at the room they had, and how warm they were when they got here. They were ready to come out of there though. The ducks are growing and enjoying life. can't wait to get more pics.

Todd Walker, that is a nice group of ducks you have...
