Are they selected for egg color or for another standard? If I want really dark eggs, is Ideal a good place to roder from? I have heard that there are mixed results from hatcheries as far as getting Welsummers that lay nice dark eggs.

their eggs are lighter than a maran. like terra cotta color. I have breeder stock and can't wait till they lay

Mine haven't started laying yet, but when they do, I will post photos of the eggs alongside other brown egg layer's eggs.

I agree!

A friend of mine ordered thru a hatchery for her Welsummers and they all laid brown eggs, not of terra cotta like mine does, just plain brown eggs.
