ideas about staying out and temps

The crew should be arriving Friday and I'll keep them inside a bit to make sure everybody is eating/drinking doing well. During the day it's getting up to 90 and at night it goes down to 70...maybe mid 70s. I have a secure place for them outside in the pen (enclosed and protected from rain) and have a heat lamp for the night, is it possible for me to put them outside at about a week or so?

I'm raising these for a friend and she ordered 30...I don't have room inside for 30 ducks! Luckily we are all sand here and the drainage is great in the duck pen. When they're old enough to have the pool all the time they can't make it muddy.

I would do the same as you're thinking of...just make sure it stays at teh right temp all night. My ducks picked their lamp OFF one night, I panicked in the morning when I found out.....the ducks couldnt have cared less!!!

They were 2 weeks old when that happened. We're ahving about the same weather here, and that's how I do mine. I'm kinda envious of the sand thing and drainage though...we have all hard dried-out clay/mud packs lol. When it rains, it drains all right....after about six days of them drilling in the nasty slop in the holes they dig!

They won't have any problems with temp. Plenty warm. Mine were out in 30 degree KS weather at 3 weeks old. They didn't really care about the heat lamp either!

I brood my ducklings outside from the moment I get them. I have a small, fully insulated coop. I put a lamp in there for heat and the ducklings do just fine.
