We're planning on building a 8 X 14 coop with an enclosed 17 X 14 run. They will free range/pasture as well.
We have 21 Buckeye chicks right now, we'll probably keep 8 or so for layers.
Eventually we might need a momma hen brooding area or a breeding pen and a place for the extra cockerels. My husband thinks we should make a permanent smaller area for the layers (4 sq ft per layer) and leave the rest of the coop open for the others and possibly use chicken wire inside to separate that as needed. To me that's a lot of space in the coop that may not be utilized most of the year. We would also split the run accordingly.
Any ideas for how to design/split the interior of the coop? My husband wants the man door on the east 8 ft side. The run will be on the long 14 ft side off to the south.
