ideas for cross breeding?

Anyone got success stories in cross breeding for specific traits? I'm thinking of trying a white leghorn male and Jersey giant female. Hoping to get a large bird that matures quickly and is great egg layer. I know there are already good dual purpose breeds available. But am curious to try it on my own. Anyone had any success in cross breeding to get a bird that is not already available?

Except I prefer birds that mature slowly.
